Laughing All Day

by Techniguy - 05-25-2005

President George W. Bush and Chief Advisor, Carl Rove, certainly must have been laughing all day Thursday, as Democrat leaders reacted like Alka-Seltzer in water to press releases on Rove’s speech last Wednesday. While speaking Wednesday evening to the New York state Conservative Party, Rove made the following statement:

"Liberals saw the savagery of the 9/11 attacks and wanted to prepare indictments and offer therapy and understanding for our attackers. Conservatives, saw the savagery of 9/11 and the attacks and prepared for war."

Whether he knew it at the time or not, Rove had set a trap for liberal Democrats. When the press and the media took the bait, Congressional Democrats anxiously jumped right in with both feet in their mouths expressing outrage and anger at what they took as an insult to them personally. Leading the misguided charge was Hillary Clinton, Chuck Schumer, Nancy Pelosi, John Kerry, Harry Reid, and many other of the usual suspects. Each one in lockstep, expressed their outrage over Rove’s remarks and demanded his apology and resignation as Chief Political Advisor to the President.

But then that’s nothing new for Democrats to demand the resignation of the President’s advisors and cabinet members. They have demanded the resignations of Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice, Vice President, Dick Cheney, Defense Secretary, Donald Rumsfeld on more than one occasion, and even the President himself. It’s become standard practice, as absurd and ridiculous as it is, for Democrats to demand someone’s resignation every time they hear something they don’t like. The mistake for Republicans was in falling for it when Democrats demanded Senate Majority Leader, Trent Lott, step down after his dinner party tribute to retiring Senator Strom Thurman. This gave encouragement to Democrats who think they are still in charge and can dictate to Republicans as to who should hold leadership positions.

The really funny part, and the trap that all these “big shot” Democrats stepped into is that Rove was not even talking about them. His speech was to a conservative audience, and was on the topic of conservative and liberal differences in America. The statements by Rove, quoted in the press, were in the context of what MoveOn.org and other radical left wing groups had done in the aftermath of the 911 attacks. Rove never mentioned anyone by name, nor did he use the word “Democrat” to describe the subjects of his discussion. The term he used was “Liberals”, as his discussion was on the differences between conservative and liberal views today in America. The example he cited was quite accurate and appropriate for the discussion.

But that didn’t stop top level Democrats from jumping on the bandwagon (or under it), each shouting “I’m guilty, I’m guilty” and showing America that they truly do identify with the extreme left wing radicals who have hijacked the Democratic party. If they had been smart, they would have remained silent and let any criticism fall on the organizations to which Rove was referring. Instead, they all jumped into Rove’s political boob trap with both feet in their yapping mouths, crying about being insulted, and demanding an apology along with Rove‘s resignation. If you are not guilty, and not the object of the criticism, then why would you demand an apology unless in your own opinion, you just knew he was talking about you? Keep in mind for the next few years as Hillary tries to appear as a moderate, that she was the first and most adamant in her defense of the liberal extremists and one who identified the most with Rove‘s assertions. Quite an odd position for someone to take who wants to appear as a moderate.

The most likely reason for Democrat leaders to be unwittingly sticking their heads in the noose, would be their desire to quickly find anything to draw attention away from the idiotic and treasonous statements made by Illinois Senator Dick Durbin regarding alleged abuses at Club Gitmo. It would be most helpful to them to find something that would balance the scales and call it even. They thought this was their chance but failed to do their homework and read what Rove was really talking about. Instead, they made assumptions and jumped to conclusions, as usual, and came up with the wrong response, putting them in an even worse position than they were before.

Yes, I have no doubt that Carl Rove and President Bush were having one of the best days of their administration on Thursday watching, as Senate and House Democrats came out one by one, and publicly exposed themselves as identifying with the radical left, socialist fringe of their party. Democrats never do seem to know when to sit down and shut up but I have no doubt that in watching them on Thursday, Bush and Rove just had to be laughing all day.
